Mr. Clean 04

TheKeyPlay.com says David Wilson eats chick-fil-a on Sundays and I’m apt to believe them. He also owns 50 ties. No shit, ask Jos. A Bank. So, where did Mr. Clean come from? When asked on Twitter his response was a profound, idk. Awesome. Well, since I was gifted with a massive…imagination I’ll venture to say it may have something to do with his ability to evade defenders.

Oddly enough however there are some out there who still do not believe in ol’ DW4. They question his ability to be an every down type back while replacing two record breakers in DE and RMFW. Fair enough, reloading that kind of talent is difficult. Nonetheless, if you wait around for the credits to keep rolling you will see some phenomenal numbers out of limited game time that he did share with our two headed monster as a utility player. Not a third string speedster at back but an allaroundsman(c). Since my artistic abilities are limited to stick figures ill stick to paint-by-numbers format to elaborate.

Last year Wilson was the third leading rusher with 619 yards on the ground. This is deceptive as RMFW sat out for four games but where and how he obtained them deserves the closer look. With efficiency comes the production. At 5.5ypc he was a hair shy of Darren Evans with a 5.7 average. Some will argue that those further down the depth chart will normally have a higher average as they are pitted against gassed defenses in the third and fourth quarters but this isn’t the case. In terms of breakaway speed Wilson showed 20+ gains or more in at least 5 games with a longest of 68 against Central Michigan. How this translates going forward remains to be seen but the stable isn’t full of mares either. Josh Oglesby will move back over from his role at Full Back complementing Wilson’s style as more of a downhill runner on third and short with Tony Greggory available to take snaps as well. Many are looking to these three to take some weight off LT early on as he solidifies into position but considering the first four cupcakes we play I see them providing the sprinkles. With that said, being a Bill Mays fan, God rest his soul, I’ll provide a “that’s not all.”

You can’t spell potential without potent. Wilson provides just as much danger when thrown to. He compiled 234 receiving yards and 4 TD’s with Tyrod at the helm. LT as we know isn’t going to be prancing around the field as much so the versatility allows for separation in the flats via Wilson on possible screens and various other dip and dunk plays. This will also make Defensive Coordinators think twice about jamming blitz packages down our throats as well. Im not sure about handing the ball off to him 30-35 times a game but a nice balance of the run and keeping the short routes viable will open up space for the deep threats in Boykin, Coale, and Davis. When commentators talk about a complete back, this is it. He may or may not rack up 1600 yards rushing like Williams but this dual threat will account for some pretty highlights for sure.

Sadly however, the return game probably won’t benefit as much from Wilson’s production last year. Nonetheless, Hosley and Roberts are no duds. There is always plenty enough talent on special teams to reload year in and out. The purpose of showcasing return numbers is to further instill how explosive he is. Mr. Clean, staying true to name, led team and ACC with 584 KR yards and two touchdowns. Combining this with the other two phases of play Wilson racked up 1423 All Purpose, 11 TD with at least two in each category, and most productive player on the ground having 110.5 yards per game. Bananas. He may have not played in one role so extensively to see this potential but when added all up his contributions speak for themselves.
